Access statement

Three Abbey Green is situated in a small picturesque cobbled square in the centre of Bath. The cobbles, whilst newly laid, present quite a ‘rustic’ surface. The surrounding pavements consist of traditional Bath Blue paving slabs, which also present a fairly rough surface. Whilst the square is restricted to traffic, some cars do use the square and vehicles can drive up to the front door. The pavement is about a metre wide at this point and there are three steps up to the front door. Each step is the full width of the door and there are railings either side of the steps which may be used for support. If we are advised of arrival time we will endeavour to be on hand to offer assistance.

We have a ‘single key’ access system: i.e. guests receive one key, on arrival, which will fit both the outer and inner front doors and the guest bedroom.

The dining room and reception area are on the lower ground floor. There is a conventional staircase with a double curve, with steps which narrow on the curve. The staircase has handrails on both sides. On the half landing leading down to the dining room we provide toilet facilities and baby changing facilities. This is the only ‘public’ toilet in the house.

The reception area, at the bottom of the stairs, has a desk with computer and printer for guest use. There is a conventional dining room style chair for guest use.

The dining room contains a number of tables and we can put these together for groups of guests in order to have parties on one table. The floor is smooth lino. Some breakfast items are self service - cereals, juice and fruit, although we are happy to serve guests who prefer to have table service. The breakfast menu caters for vegetarian diets and we will purchase items for other special diets upon request. If guests are unable to negotiate the stairs we will provide breakfast in their room.

On the ground floor there are two bedrooms. The Westwood Suite is a spacious family suite with a superking size double bed, which can be split to make two single beds. In addition there is a small dressing room containing an additional 3’ single bed. Straight through the dressing room is the en suite shower room. The shower is of the walk-in variety, with a mixer valve which can be preset for a comfortable temperature. There is a pedestal washbasin and WC in the same room. The shower room is quite spacious and a wheelchair would be able to enter the room and be manoeuvred to any of the facilities. The entrance to the shower room is 29.5 inches wide

The other spacious ground floor room is Lady Hamilton, with a superking size double bed which can be split to make two single beds. The shower room is a little smaller with a walk in shower. There is no 'lip' on entry to the shower which would make it easy for wheelchairs to enter. There is not so much room to manoeuvre a wheelchair and there is quite a narrow doorway giving access (25.5 inches)..

On the first floor we have two bedroom suites. Lord Nelson is a large room with four poster bed and a lounge area with a sofa and two arm chairs. There is a small shower room, within which wheelchair manoeuvrability would be limited. The second room on this floor is a family suite with a large bedroom with a super king size double bed which can be split to make two single beds. In addition there is a full size single bed in this room and two arm chairs. Attached is a single room, also containing a full size single bed. Through this room is the bathroom - a large room, with full-size bath and separate shower, double  pedestal washbasin and toilet. There is plenty of space to manoeuvre a wheelchair.

On the second floor, there are a further three double bedrooms each with bathroom, double bed and all  rooms have additional seating, albeit in Lilliput Court there is a window seat, with restricted access around the bed.

We encourage families with babies/children and have toys available in the dining room. We provide travel cots with suitable bedding without charge, as well as the designated baby-changing facility already mentioned.

We provide WiFi access in all rooms without charge for guests who bring their own computers.

Each room has a hair dryer, remote control TV, central heating and windows which can be opened to allow in fresh air.

We do not have a lift in the guest house.

Smoking is not permitted in any area of the guest house.

We are approximately 250 yards from the train station and 500 yards from the bus station. There are taxis within 50 yards and we are happy to order taxis if guests wish to be collected at the front door.

There is no parking at the guest house. We suggest that guests park in the public carpark in Manvers Street. This car park is free overnight and costs GBP12 for 12 daylight hours. The car park is next to the police station and cars parked on the street level are overlooked by the police station.

The major city attractions are nearby. The Abbey and Roman Baths are within 50 yards and the new Thermae spa is no more than 250 yards. We are surrounded by many individual restaurants, the closest of which is within 30 yards of the front door.

We are happy to provide further information on request.
